You are currently viewing Who wrote the world’s first & greatest “Resume”?

In the year 1482, at 30 yrs, Leonardo da Vinci wanted to find work in Milan. He had several talents including being a designer of bridges, a boat builder, a sculptor, a machine builder, etc

He wrote a letter to Ludovico Sforza, the Regent of Milan at the time. Thus, the resume was born.

What was unique about this Resume:

1. He wrote 11 specific things he could do for Milan. It was a resume not about the candidate but what he could do for Milan

2. It was a highly personalised resume in the form of a letter, he took the Regent on a journey of possibilities

3. He ended with: “if any of the above-named things seem to anyone to be impossible or not feasible, I am most ready to experiment in your park, your Excellency”(offer)

4. Included with his letter was a silver lyre of his own creation, sculpted in the shape of a horse’s head. This was the evidence of his skill

5. He used it as a marketing tool to entice, the result is known to all, he landed the job & exceeded expectations for the next 17 yrs:)

Does your resume showcase your skills?

How is it different?

P.S: His Resume was one page long
